Globalization and Middle East Studies

Mohamed El-Shibiny is a definitive authority regarding the relationship between the West and the Arab world.

He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at Ohio State University and served in the United Nations for over thirty years promoting education and culture exchange for developing countries in Africa, the Far East, and the Middle East.

El Shibiny has a thorough knowledge of Third-World requirements and viewpoints as the former UNESCO Chief Technical Advisor for East Africa, the Philippines, and Qatar and as Regional Representative for the Middle East Gulf States.

On retiring from the UN, his invaluable insight into Asian, African and Middle Eastern perspectives developed over his travels offered him the position of Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education in the Sultanate of Oman. The years following he served as Dean of the Faculty of Education at Sultan Qaboos University.

Since, he continued to travel extensively, authoring, lecturing at international venues including Georgetown University, Washington D.C., and Durham University, UK, and participating in various events including the Library of Congress in the African and Middle Eastern Division on the discussion of his book the "Threat of Globalization on Islamic Studies" (March 2005: Washington DC - USA).

Born in Egypt, he lives there today with his wife, Panayota and his daughters Aida, Mona, Nadia and Shaden and is currently retired.
